We used a process called Potai, a technique of dyeing in which the dye is painted directly onto the fabric with visible brushstrokes. The black color is from Natural Kasim mixtures of Behada, iron, jaggery and water. The red color is derived from Behada alum and madder root (rubia cardifolia).
For our Fall/Winter 2021 production, the textile was created by three men who love abstract painting and working with a brush. They create 20 to 25 meters per day. Due to the unique and individual application, every area of the fabric is unique to the artisan who made it.
